Shireen Noelani Varga (She, Her)

Executive Director

Shireen is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) and a recently transitioned veteran Captain of the California State Guard, where she served for over five years. During her service, she worked as an Executive Officer (XO) for Medical Command and as a Behavioral Health Officer embedded with a National Guard Infantry Battalion conducting fitness for duty assessments and providing therapeutic support in the field for her fellow infantrymen. Her time in the Guard reflects a deep and ongoing commitment to service, which continues to shape her leadership and approach to care.

In her current professional role, Shireen serves as Executive Director of Sorrel Leaf Healing Center, developing clinical curriculums and trauma informed policies, while overseeing the construction from the ground up of its healing campus, where she provides strong, purpose-driven leadership. She brings many years of hands-on experience as a therapist working directly with youth in crisis, along with a proven track record of managing and developing clinical programs within nonprofit settings. Her work has largely focused on supporting underserved youth and adults in crisis in Southern California, where she has led initiatives designed to empower individuals, strengthen families, and promote healing in communities facing adversity.

Having spent half of her life in Italy, Shireen brings a global perspective that enriches both her clinical work and leadership style. As a Native Hawaiian, she holds a deep respect for cultural diversity and intentionally integrates this into her work to ensure it is inclusive, thoughtful, and effective. Fluent in English, Spanish, and Italian, she is able to connect with individuals from a wide range of backgrounds, helping to create a welcoming and supportive environment for all.

Shireen is deeply passionate about supporting those facing mental health challenges and is a committed advocate for mental health and wellness, guided by the belief that every individual deserves the opportunity to heal, grow, and thrive.

My Approach

My approach in building trauma-informed and culturally competent programs is inspired by the belief that every young person deserves not only support, but the opportunity to rediscover their strengths, voice, and sense of belonging.
